Niepoort Port, 2015

Vintage Port, Douro
BIOMA Vinha Velha- Half Bottle
***19/20 Points-(JH) Jancis Robinson.com***

This 2015 Bioma “Vinha Velha”, Vintage Port Wine from Niepoort is a single vineyard Vintage Port from aged vines at Vinha da Pisca (mostly + 80 years old), which is cultivated organically. A hot site, which produces impressive tannins, it formed the backbone of Niepoort Vintage Ports for many years. However, the best parcels were set aside for this wine in 2013, 2011, 2009, 2008 and (known then as Pisca) in 2007. Like Niepoort Vintage Port, Bioma was 100% foot trodden with 100% stems. It was then aged in pipes (550 litre)and will be bottled in the third year after the harvest (2018) which, says Niepoort, is what happened in the “old days” when wines were shipped to England in pipes, and bottled later.

Domaine de Chevalier, 2014

Graves Pessac-Leogan
***93 points- Wine Advocate***

The Domaine de Chevalier 2014 is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 30% Merlot. It has a fragrant bouquet with blackberry, black plum, cigar ash and woodland scents, complex though not as intense as its white counterpart. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy, quite firm tannin that underpin a classic Domaine de Chevalier that has just the right amount of austerity at this stage. Reserved perhaps, but it is beautifully knitted together with a lovely bay leaf tinged finish. Quintessential Domaine de Chevalier...which is what we all want. Neal Martin- Wine Advocate- Aug 2015

Château Domaine de Chevalier stands as an iconic wine estate located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation within Bordeaux, France.

Louis Roederer, 2008

Cristal, Louis Roederer, Champagne
In Presentation Box
***99 Points - Vinous***

2008 Louis Roederer Cristal

The 2008 vintage began with difficulty for Louis Roederer. After a stormy and rainy spring, flowering was late with widespread disease producing small and dense clusters of grapes. The dry summer, though cool with relatively little sunshine, resulted in a maturation process that was both dry and fresh. Exceptionally favourable weather conditions in September then fostered perfect maturation of the grapes, producing wines with an exceptional and natural balance between freshness and a concentration of flavours. As more releases hit the market, 2008 is being considered the next-best vintage since 2002.

Warre's Vintage Port, 2007

Vintage Port, Douro

93 Points - Wine Advocate.

"The 2007 Warre Vintage Port is one of the stars of the vintage. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it displays an expressive bouquet of Asian spices, incense, lavender, blackberry, and fruitcake. Plush on the palate with outstanding volume, it exhibits a sense of elegance as well as power. Savory flavors, plenty of structure for the long haul, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish suggests two decades of cellaring are in order. This superb effort should still be drinking well in 2050." The 2006 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round with a slightly oily texture that is silky and enhances the overall experience.

Domaines Barons De Rothschild (Lafite), 2006

Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon, Colchagua -Chile

I am delighted to say this was one of the best wines I have ever tasted. In the nose carried some ageing notes, but generally still familiar ripe pronounced Cabernet aromas and spiciness. On the palate, fascinatingly complex, layered fruit and spice, some jamminess but at the same time good acidity, full body, lots of tannin, long long length.
