Description
Valdoeiro is the family estate of Messias in the region of Bairrada. The 2015 Reserva Quinta do Valdoeiro is a 70/25 blend of Baga and Touriga Nacional, with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has aged for 18 months in 60% used French oak and comes in at 13.1% alcohol.
Tasting Notes Intense ruby coloured wine. Fine and complex aroma, where you can discover fruits of the forest reminiscent of blueberries and cassis, punctuated by mineral sensations of pottery and iodine-like saline. The forest bottom dominates the entire race experience. In the mouth it has a strong structure. However, its silky tannins and refreshing acidity suggest a wine with enormous aging potential. Very long finish.

This bottling is always about two-thirds Baga and made only in years when the Baga is good enough to produce a Reserva. This is understated, but it shows as well or better than some of the producer's pricier Douro wines this issue. Velvety in texture, its fruit is lifted and refreshing. It ends with just a bit of tannic pop. This is a great food wine, impeccable in balance. This will be better in a year, but it can be drunk now. It will hold well. It's a fine value in a refined red.
