Barolo, Piedmont
Excellent provenance

Clearance Offer | Was £89 | Now £50

The 1993 Barolo Cantine Prandi have come from the producer's cellars where they have laid undisturbed since bottling.

Cantine Prandi was established in the 1920s when grandfather Farinetti Majorino envisioned selling part of the wine produced for family use to the commercial market. In the 1960's his nephew Giovanni came to lend a hand and was instrumental in shaping the winery and its future development. Up to 2009, Giovanni's son Alessandro looked after the beautiful vineyards situated in the long hills surrounding Piemonte. In recent years, due to Alessandro's passing, the winery ceased production.

Cannonau Di Sardegna, 1993

Jerzu

The Cannonau (also known as Cannonao, Cannonadu or Canunau) is the most popular wine from the island of Sardinia. It's mostly produced in the centre of Sardinia, even if we can find production of this famous wine in all the island. The grapes used for this Sardinian wine is the Cannonau. (At least 90 % of this grapes has to be used to be certified as original Cannonau). Cannonau is a very "strong wine" so it should be used with elaborate red meat and some types of cheese.

Tokaji, 1993

Tokaji Royal Aszu Essencia
(Half litre, 50cl), Hungary

Situated along the southern slopes of the Zemplén Mountains, Tokaj is characterized by late springs and short growing seasons. The average temperatures are generally cool, with long, sunny summers and dry autumns. Tokaj’s soil is largely clay or loess with a volcanic substratum; vines are approximately 20 years old. The meeting of the Tisza and Bodrog rivers in Tokaj creates a mist similar to that of the fog in Sauternes. The mist encourages “botrytis cinerea,” or “noble rot,” which dries and shrivels the Furmint, Hárslevelü and Muscat grape varieties that comprise Tokaji wines, and concentrates the sugars.

Quevedo, 1992

Colheita Port
*** 94 Points- Wine Advocate ***

*** 90 Points, Roy Hersh - For the Love of Port ***

The 1992 Quevedo Colheita is an outstanding quality and value effort from this family-run estate. Oscar and Claudia Quevedo have produced a light brown port with hints of amber. On the palate there are nuts and a lovely light molasses note with coffe and spices The finish is long and lingering as befits a quality port such as this. Outstanding!

Reviews:
"This was a cask sample which Oscar Quevedo had sent to me by way of Vinologia and how often do you get to try 16 year old bottled cask samples of any wine? I can't begin to describe the color as we sat beneath the bridge on the Porto side, sipping and talking during the wee hours our first night in country (Andy/ Stewart/Roy).

A 1992 Ryst-Dupeyron Armagnac is not just a bottle of brandy; it's a meaningful and luxurious gift that will be remembered and cherished.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1992

Malvasia

A rich, velvety smooth Malvazia with sweet caramel, chocolate orange and malted chocolate notes. Well judged balancing acidity teases out the finish and keeps the sweetness in check.
* Review by Sarah Ahmed- www.thewinedetective.co.uk *

Try this luscious sweet and full-bodied Madeira with stewed meat dishes with sweet and spicy elements. It pars marvellously with intense and rich dark chocolate as well as nutty and caramel desserts. Why not serve at the very end of the meal with a blue cheese such as stilton or Roquefort. Finally, a Malvasia is also delicious with cigars.

Taittinger, 1992

New

Vintage Champagne Matta Label

As the years went by, Matta’s work, influenced for a long time by the violence and oppression that sadly marked this era, became subdued and more poetic.

These are some of the characteristics found on the design he created in his homage to Champagne. Matta leads the design with poppies, a well-known symbol of war remembrance and painted them on an ochre background. These flowers represent a need for nostalgia, yet a spirit of continuation all the same. Calligraphic marks, reminiscent of the famous ‘automatic writing’ of the surrealists, run across the design.

The bottle contains a Brut Millésimé 1992, made from a combination of Chardonnay (50 %) and Pinot Noir (50 %).
