Description
1971 Amarone della Valpolicella – Canrine Lamberti
The 1971 vintage comes from a formative period in Amarone’s history, when traditional methods of grape drying and extended ageing defined the style. Produced in the Valpolicella region of Veneto, this Amarone from Canrine Lamberti reflects the classic approach of the era, emphasising richness, structure and slow evolution in bottle.
Tasting Notes:
Now deep mahogany in colour with amber highlights at the rim, the nose is mature and complex. Aromas of dried cherry, fig and prune intertwine with notes of leather, tobacco leaf and polished oak. With time in the glass, hints of cocoa, espresso and warm spice emerge, adding depth and character. On the palate it is full-bodied yet harmonious, with a smooth, velvety texture and softened tannins shaped by long ageing. Flavours of dried dark fruits, bittersweet chocolate and subtle balsamic tones unfold gradually, leading to a long, warming and elegant finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove sediment and allow the wine to open slowly before serving. Best enjoyed at cellar temperature. A fine companion to slow-braised meats, game dishes, aged hard cheeses or simply savoured on its own.
Summary:
A mature and characterful Amarone from a traditional era of Valpolicella winemaking, showing depth, richness and the complexity that only extended ageing can bring. A rewarding bottle for collectors and admirers of classic Italian wines.
