Description

Barolo is one of Italy's most prestigious wines, made from the Nebbiolo grape in the Piedmont region. This Barolo from 1965 is an extraordinary wine with over five decades of age. It’s important to note that the wine will likely have evolved significantly, displaying characteristics that are more about tertiary flavours rather than the youthful fruitiness you might expect from a younger wine.

Appearance:
Light, brick-red or tawny colour, with a watery rim, indicative of its age.
Nose:
On the nose, this vintage would display complex and mature aromas. Expect notes of dried roses, tar, and truffles, which are classic to Barolo, alongside earthy tones like forest floor, old leather, and dried leaves.
Palate:
On the palate, the wine would be very smooth and elegant, with tannins that have softened significantly over the years. The acidity, a hallmark of Barolo, should still be present, giving the wine a surprising freshness despite its age.
Finish:
The finish would be long, refined, and complex, with all the flavours gently fading out, leaving a lasting impression of maturity and depth.

A wine of this age may be delicate, so it's best to enjoy it slowly, allowing it to open up and reveal its full character. Decant the wine carefully to remove sediment.
