Description
1971 Barolo – Cantine Prandi
Last Library Stock
The 1971 vintage is regarded as one of the classic post-war years in Piedmont, producing Barolo wines of structure, perfume and remarkable longevity. This bottle from Cantine Prandi comes from a traditional era of Nebbiolo winemaking, when long ageing and patient cellar maturation were central to the style. Offered as last library stock, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire a bottle that has remained in producer or long-term cellar conditions since release.
Tasting Notes:
Now displaying a brick-garnet colour with amber highlights at the rim, the nose is mature and finely layered. Aromas of dried cherry, rose petal and redcurrant are intertwined with notes of leather, tobacco leaf and forest floor. With time in the glass, hints of truffle, cedarwood and warm spice emerge, adding complexity. On the palate it is medium-bodied yet structured, with resolved tannins and a graceful line of acidity that preserves balance. Flavours of dried red fruits, savoury earth and subtle balsamic tones lead to a long, elegant and contemplative finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove sediment and allow the wine to open slowly before serving. Best enjoyed at cellar temperature. A natural partner to braised meats, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto or mature hard cheeses.
Summary:
A rare example of mature Barolo from a celebrated vintage, this 1971 Cantine Prandi offers classic Nebbiolo perfume and savoury complexity, enhanced by the provenance of last library stock — a rewarding bottle for collectors and enthusiasts of traditional Piedmont wines.
