Description

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. The 1976 Barolo from Fratelli Berteletti presents a brick garnet color with amber and tawny highlights at the rim, clearly reflecting its full maturity. The wine appears delicate and translucent, consistent with traditionally made Nebbiolo from this era.

The nose is evolved and nuanced, opening with aromas of dried rose petals, tar, and red tea, followed by dried cherry, cranberry, and hints of orange peel. With time, tertiary notes of leather, forest floor, tobacco, mushroom, dried herbs, and subtle balsamic tones emerge.

On the palate, the wine is fully resolved and graceful, with softened tannins and moderate acidity providing balance. Flavors of dried red fruits, tea leaf, earthy spice, and a touch of anise unfold gently, emphasizing savory complexity and elegance over power.

The finish is medium in length, earthy and refined, with lingering notes of dried herbs, leather, and woodland character. Overall, this is a classic, mature Barolo best appreciated for its tertiary nuance and historical charm, served slightly cool and handled carefully due to its age.
