Description
Elio Grasso, 2018 Barolo “Gavarini Chiniera”
From one of Barolo’s most admired traditional estates, the 2018 Gavarini Chiniera is a refined and expressive single-vineyard Barolo from the Monforte d’Alba commune.
Tasting Note
The nose is complex and lifted, offering aromas of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry and blood orange, layered with rose petal, liquorice, tar and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is poised and structured, with vibrant acidity carrying flavours of crimson fruit, dried herbs and mineral earthiness. Fine-grained tannins provide shape and persistence, leading to a long, savoury and finely balanced finish.
Food Pairing
A superb match for slow-braised beef, lamb, venison, truffle-led dishes and aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno.
Serving & Cellaring
Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before drinking. Drinking well now with air, and will cellar confidently for 15–20 years.
Why We Love It
Gavarini Chiniera offers a slightly more elegant and aromatic expression of Monforte Nebbiolo, without sacrificing depth or longevity. Elio Grasso’s interpretation is precise, classical and beautifully balanced.

Reviews
96/100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The Gavarini Chiniera vineyard is shaped like an amphitheater with thick forests at the back (which protects from cold air currents) and sandy chalk soil at 380 meters in elevation. This is a special site, and the Elio Grasso 2018 Barolo Gavarini Chiniera is always one of Grasso's most easily recognized wines. This vintage is exceptionally bright and vibrant with lifted tones of cherry, plum, blue flower and sweet blood orange. Those primary notes are framed by sensations of dusty white mineral. This mid-weight wine exhibits the deep elegance that was achieved in this vintage. Best After 2025"
