  • Description

The 2004 Barolo Bussia is a fine expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo's most prestigious vineyards, located in the Bussia cru in the Monforte d'Alba area of Piedmont, Italy. Known for its structured, complex, and age-worthy wines, Bussia's terroir produces Barolos that are both powerful and elegant.

    Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Garnet red with orange reflections, typical of aged Nebbiolo wines.
Nose: Aromas of ripe red cherries, dried roses, and plums dominate, alongside more developed notes of leather, tobacco, truffle, and hints of spice (clove, cinnamon) as the wine evolves in the glass. There is also a signature earthy and mineral character that comes through, reflecting the terroir of Bussia.
Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with firm yet fine tannins that have softened with age. The wine offers flavors of dried red fruits, such as cherries and cranberries, along with complex layers of forest floor, tar, tobacco, and a touch of balsamic. There’s a noticeable acidity that keeps the wine fresh and balanced, contributing to its long aging potential.
Finish: Long, with lingering notes of dried fruit, spice, and an earthy minerality that is characteristic of well-aged Barolo. The tannins are still present but integrated, providing a refined and elegant finish.
    Aging Potential:
2004 was an excellent vintage in Barolo, known for producing structured wines with great aging potential. Many bottles are still developing beautifully and can continue to be cellared for another 5-10 years, possibly longer, depending on storage conditions. The tannins have softened over time, and the wine has developed complex secondary and tertiary characteristics.

    Food Pairing:
Classic pairing with rich, hearty dishes like braised beef (Brasato al Barolo), osso buco, or slow-cooked lamb.
Pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, or aged cheeses such as Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino.
This Barolo can also complement roasted game meats or savory pasta dishes with meat-based sauces.
    Serving:
It is recommended to decant the wine for about an hour before serving to allow it to fully open up. Serve at a temperature of about 16-18°C (60-64°F) to best experience its complexity.
