Description

The 1959 Château Calon-Ségur is a remarkable wine from one of the most historic estates in the Bordeaux region celebrated for producing structured, elegant, and age-worthy wines. The 1959 vintage is widely recognised as one of the greatest vintages of the 20th century in Bordeaux, and wines from this year have become highly collectible.

Tasting notes:
Likely showing a deep amber core with a fading garnet rim, indicative of its maturity. Complex bouquet of dried fruits (figs, prunes), tobacco, cedar, leather, forest floor, truffles, and subtle spice. Silky and evolved on the palate, with softened tannins and layers of flavours, including dried red and black fruits, earthy undertones, and hints of licorice and herbs. The finish is long and refined, with lingering savoury and tertiary notes.

Château Calon-Ségur is renowned for its historic roots and romantic reputation. It was once owned by the Marquis de Ségur, who famously declared, "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon," a sentiment immortalized in the heart-shaped emblem on the label. The 1959 vintage of Calon-Ségur is a prime example of its ability to craft powerful yet graceful wines that age exceptionally well. Over six decades later, the 1959 Calon-Ségur continues to display the harmony, richness, and complexity of both the château and the vintage.
