Description

The 1984 Château Léoville Las Cases is a mature and quietly elegant Saint-Julien, showing how well this historic estate can perform even in a challenging vintage. In the glass, it displays a brick-garnet colour with a softened rim, reflecting its long, steady development in bottle.

The nose is graceful and fully evolved, offering aromas of dried blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco leaf, and pencil shavings—classic markers of both the estate and the commune. Hints of leather, dried herbs, and forest floor emerge with air, giving the wine layered complexity and an old-school Bordeaux charm.

On the palate, the wine is gentle and harmonious, with melted tannins and a silky, mature texture. Flavours of dried cassis, redcurrant, earthy spice, and cedar unfold gradually, supported by a subtle mineral line typical of Las Cases. While modest in power, the balance and poise remain impressive for the vintage.

The finish is savoury, soft, and persistent, lingering with notes of tobacco, dried fruit, and warm spice. This is a beautifully evolved claret, ideal for those who appreciate the finesse and nuance of fully mature Bordeaux.
