Description
Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, 1986
Pauillac 2ème Cru Classé
A refined and beautifully mature Pauillac, the 1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a superb example of this highly regarded Second Growth at full maturity. Known for its elegance and finesse, Pichon Lalande offers a more graceful and aromatic expression of Pauillac, and the 1986 vintage has now evolved into a wine of remarkable complexity and balance.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet in colour with a softened rim, the nose is expressive and layered, offering aromas of blackcurrant, cedar and cigar box alongside notes of dried flowers, leather and spice. The palate is smooth and harmonious, with fine, integrated tannins supporting flavours of dark fruit, tobacco and subtle oak. The finish is long and poised, with a gentle persistence that reflects both the vintage and the house style.
Drinking Window
Now fully mature and drinking beautifully. Bottles that have been well stored will continue to offer pleasure, but this is a wine to enjoy now and over the coming years.
Food Pairing
A classic match for roast lamb, beef wellington or game dishes such as venison. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of the leading estates of Pauillac, renowned for producing wines of elegance and refinement. Often considered among the finest of the Second Growths, the château has built a reputation for combining power with balance, creating wines that age gracefully over decades.
Summary
A mature and elegant Pauillac offering classic Left Bank character, making it an excellent choice for collectors or as a distinguished anniversary gift.

"The 2008 is a beauty in the style of the 1988. Although not performing as well as I predicted last year, it is unquestionably an outstanding effort as well as one of the better values from Pichon Lalande in many years. Its dense plum/purple hue is accompanied by sweet aromas of red and black currants, charcoal, herbs, underbrush and a hint of truffles. This medium-bodied, rich, concentrated blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc is an elegant, supple Pichon Lalande that can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years." Parker Wine Advocate 2011.
"A modern day classic? I think so, here, the wine transcending the potential it showed in barrel. The Pichon-Lalande has a fragrant, unassuming bouquet with pure blackberry, blueberry and black plum. Well integrated oak here, with subtle cedar and graphite scents developing with time. Good definition. The palate has vibrant, animated entry with fiery red-berried fruits, superb acidity and wonderful harmony, cashmere tannins caressing the mouth. It lingers for an extraordinary amount of time on the back palate with real structure and focus. Hints of black pepper sprinkled on the aftertaste. Brilliant. Drink 2013-2040.
