Description
2008 Château d’Armailhac is a refined and classically styled Pauillac that captures the poise and precision of this cooler Bordeaux vintage. Now in its perfect drinking window, it shows how beautifully the Mouton Rothschild stable performs in years that favour elegance over sheer power. The wine displays a deep garnet core with soft, mature edges.
The bouquet is aromatic and inviting, opening with cassis, black cherry and mulberry layered with cedarwood, graphite, dried rose petal and a touch of cigar wrapper. Subtle notes of baking spice and forest floor give the wine added depth as it evolves in the glass, revealing its maturity without losing freshness.
On the palate, the 2008 is medium-bodied, balanced and classically proportioned, offering supple tannins wrapped around pure Pauillac fruit. Flavours of blackcurrant, plum and bramble are interwoven with savoury hints of tobacco leaf, pencil shavings and earthy spice. The acidity is bright and beautifully integrated, leading into a long, refined finish.
Drinking superbly now, this is an excellent choice for collectors topping up their cellars or for immediate enjoyment alongside roast lamb, rib-eye steak or mature hard cheeses. A graceful, well-matured Pauillac from a reliable château and a vintage that continues to surprise with its finesse.o a stern but fresh finish. Good potential, but it will require cellaring more than usual. Drink 2017- Tasted April 2011.
