  • Description

2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape ‘Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes’ is a powerful yet refined expression of old-vine Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre from Domaine de la Charbonnière. Sourced from low-yielding parcels averaging over 70 years in age, this cuvée is the domaine’s most prestigious offering—crafted only in vintages that allow the full complexity of its ancient vines to shine. The 2015 vintage is exceptional, with warm growing conditions delivering concentration, structure, and ripe tannins.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet hue with crimson highlights. The nose is intense and perfumed, layered with black cherry, crushed raspberry, liquorice, garrigue herbs, and hints of leather and smoked meat. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and richly textured, with polished tannins and a vibrant core of dark fruit, spice, and earthy minerality. The Mourvèdre adds depth and savoury complexity, while the Syrah contributes structure and elegance. The finish is long, harmonious, and laced with notes of black olive and dried thyme.

The 2015 vintage is considered one of the finest in recent southern Rhône history, offering both power and poise. Aged in a combination of large foudres and demi-muids, this wine balances tradition with finesse, avoiding overt oak while enhancing its age-worthiness. Already drinking beautifully, it will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years.

Perfect for special occasions or fine dining, 2015 Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes pairs wonderfully with slow-cooked lamb, game dishes, or truffle risotto. Decanting is recommended to allow the full aromatic range to emerge. This is a benchmark Châteauneuf-du-Pape, combining heritage, terroir, and craftsmanship in every glass.
