  • Description

The 1985 Croft Vintage Port is another excellent example of Croft’s long-standing reputation for producing high-quality Port. The 1985 vintage was widely declared across the Douro Valley, marking it as a year of exceptional wines. Croft's 1985 Vintage Port is particularly noted for its opulent fruit, richness, and balance, with great potential for long aging.

    Key Characteristics:
Color: Still a deep ruby or garnet, though starting to show hints of tawny at the rim due to age.
Nose: Aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, and cherries, complemented by secondary notes of spices, chocolate, dried fruits, and a touch of floral elegance.
Palate: Full-bodied, with flavors of dark berries, cassis, licorice, and hints of herbs and earthiness. The tannins are softening with age but still provide structure. There's a sweet, long finish with a refreshing touch of acidity.
Structure: Well-balanced with vibrant acidity, smooth tannins, and a rounded mouthfeel. It has aged gracefully over the decades.

    Critical Acclaim:
The 1985 vintage for Port, including Croft, was highly regarded upon release and remains a collector’s favorite. It is considered one of the standout vintages of the 1980s due to its balance, complexity, and ability to age for many decades.

Scores: Generally scored in the 92–95 range by critics, with praise for its rich fruit profile and aging potential.
    Drinkability:
The 1985 Croft Vintage Port is currently in its ideal drinking window. While it has mellowed with age, it still retains lively fruit flavors and a vibrant structure. If you have a well-stored bottle, it is highly recommended to decant it carefully to remove sediment and let it breathe for 1–2 hours before drinking.
