Description
This 1975 Grignolino from Bersano has developed the delicate complexity and subtle elegance of a well-aged Piedmontese red. The bouquet opens with aromas of dried strawberry, red cherry, rose petal, and hints of orange peel, leather, and gentle earthy spice. On the palate it is light to medium-bodied, with soft, resolved tannins and balanced acidity. Flavours of dried red fruit, subtle herbs, and a gentle savoury minerality lead to a graceful, lingering finish.
Serving Suggestions
Stand the bottle upright for 24–48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Carefully and slowly decant the wine to separate it from the sediment. The cork may crumble or fragment on opening, which is normal for a wine of this age. Serve gently decanted at around 16–17 °C (60–63 °F), allowing 30–40 minutes for the aromas to fully develop. Pairs well with roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, cured meats, or aged cheeses such as Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano.
Note
For wines of this age, the cork may crumble when opening—this is normal and does not affect the quality of the wine. As with many mature wines, individual bottles may show some variation, reflecting their unique ageing journey. The evolved, savoury character of older wines may not appeal to every palate, but for those who appreciate the grace of time, it offers real depth and authenticity.
