Description

This rare, fully mature Dolcetto offers an unexpected and compelling expression of the variety after extended aging. The bouquet is delicate yet complex, opening with dried black cherry, plum skin, and blackberry, followed by notes of almond, cocoa powder, and gentle earthy undertones. With time in the glass, tertiary aromas of dried leaves, leather, tobacco, and faint balsamic nuances begin to surface.

On the palate, the wine is soft and resolved, its youthful bitterness long since transformed into a rounded, savory profile. The fruit has shifted toward dried and slightly oxidative tones—black cherry, prune, and mulberry—framed by subtle nutty and earthy elements. Tannins are fully integrated and supple, contributing to a smooth, harmonious mouthfeel.

A modest but persistent line of acidity provides structure and balance, allowing the wine to retain definition despite its age. Flavors of bitter cocoa, tea leaf, dried herbs, and a touch of licorice unfold gently, lending depth without weight. The overall character is understated, elegant, and contemplative rather than expressive or forceful.

The finish is quietly persistent, marked by almond skin, leather, and fading dark fruit. Well beyond its expected lifespan, this Dolcetto stands as a fascinating testament to traditional Barolo-zone winemaking and careful cellaring.
