Description
1980 Dow Vintage Port
The 1980 vintage produced structured and classically styled Vintage Ports, and Dow’s expression reflects the house’s renowned firm, dry and elegant character. Now with over four decades of bottle age, this wine has evolved into a refined and harmonious mature Port.
Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet in colour with a developed brick rim, the nose opens with aromas of dried blackberry, damson and fig layered with notes of cedarwood, tobacco leaf and subtle spice. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, showing Dow’s hallmark restraint and balance. The tannins have softened with time, revealing flavours of dark cherry, plum compote and gentle cocoa, alongside hints of walnut and dried herbs. A fresh line of acidity provides lift and structure, carrying through to a long, elegant and slightly drier finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove natural sediment and allow the wine to breathe before serving. Best enjoyed slightly below room temperature. A classic partner to blue cheeses such as Stilton, roasted nuts or dark chocolate desserts, or simply enjoyed on its own at the end of a meal.
Summary:
A mature and characterful Dow Vintage Port from 1980, offering structure, balance and the understated elegance typical of the house style. A fine addition to a well-curated Port collection and a rewarding bottle for lovers of traditionally styled Vintage Port.
