Description
Flor de Pingus 2006
The 2006 Flor de Pingus is a striking and characterful Ribera del Duero, produced by Peter Sisseck as the second wine to Pingus, yet standing firmly on its own merits. The 2006 vintage delivered excellent ripeness and structure, and with time in bottle this wine has evolved into a beautifully balanced and expressive mature Tempranillo.
On the nose, it shows generous aromas of ripe black cherry, plum and blackberry, layered with notes of liquorice, dark chocolate and sweet spice. As it opens, secondary characteristics emerge: leather, tobacco leaf, cedar and a subtle earthy complexity that speaks clearly of age and terroir.
The palate is supple and polished, with a core of dark fruit framed by savoury, mineral undertones. Fine-grained tannins have softened considerably, giving the wine a velvety texture, while notes of cocoa, espresso and dried herbs add depth and nuance. The balance between fruit concentration and maturity is particularly impressive.
Structurally, Flor de Pingus 2006 is harmonious rather than powerful, with acidity fully integrated and tannins resolved. It offers a sense of completeness and poise, making it very approachable now while still retaining enough substance to hold in the glass and evolve over the course of a meal.
The finish is long, warm and refined, lingering with dark fruit, spice and gentle savoury notes. Now fully mature and drinking at an excellent point, this is a superb example of aged Ribera del Duero and an ideal choice for immediate enjoyment rather than further cellaring.
