Description
This mature Gattinara comes from Fratelli Berteletti, a traditional Piedmontese producer known for crafting structured, long-lived wines from Nebbiolo grown in the volcanic soils of the Gattinara appellation. The wine shows a garnet-red colour with brick-orange highlights, a clear sign of its graceful ageing. On the nose, it offers complex aromas of dried red cherries, rose petal, leather, tobacco leaf, and subtle earthy notes of forest floor and iron-rich minerality. The palate is refined and harmonious, with finely softened tannins supporting flavours of stewed red fruits, orange peel, gentle spice, and hints of truffle. The finish is long, elegant, and savoury, beautifully expressing the depth and classic character of mature Gattinara.
Decanting: Stand the bottle upright for 2–3 days prior to opening to allow any sediment to settle. Decant slowly and carefully through a fine strainer, allowing 1–2 hours of gentle aeration before serving at 16–18°C. A fragile cork is very common with older bottles, where the wine has been in prolonged contact with the cork over many decades. We therefore recommend straining any cork fragments during the decanting process.
