Description

The Graham's 1963 Vintage Port, bottled by Eldridge Pope , is a distinguished example from one of the most celebrated Port vintages of the 20th century. The 1963 vintage marked a renaissance for Vintage Port, with Graham's producing a wine that has stood the test of time. Bottled in the UK by Grant's of St James's, these editions are notable for their historical significance and are sought after by collectors.

Tasting notes highlight the wine's complex bouquet, featuring aromas of rose petals, dried fruits, and subtle spice. On the palate, it offers a harmonious blend of concentrated, caramelized fruit flavors balanced by firm tannins and a lingering finish. Renowned wine critic Neil Martin described it as "beautifully balanced," with "flashes of eucalyptus leading towards a more extrovert, clove-tinged finish" .

When serving this vintage Port, it's advisable to decant it carefully to separate it from any sediment that may have formed over time. Allowing the wine to breathe for about an hour will help in releasing its intricate aromas and flavors. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, in a tulip-shaped glass to concentrate its bouquet and enhance the tasting experience.

In terms of food pairings, the Graham's 1963 Vintage Port complements a range of dishes. Its rich profile pairs beautifully with blue cheeses like Stilton or Roquefort, as well as with desserts featuring dark chocolate or dried fruits. For a more traditional approach, enjoy it alongside a slice of Christmas pudding or a nutty tart. Alternatively, savor it on its own as a contemplative after-dinner drink, allowing its depth and complexity to shine.
