Description

Graham’s Quinta dos Malvedos, 1965
Single Quinta Vintage Port

Summary

Graham’s Quinta dos Malvedos 1965 Vintage Port is a rare and beautifully mature Single Quinta Port from one of the Douro Valley’s most celebrated estates. Quinta dos Malvedos, Graham’s flagship vineyard, consistently produces wines of remarkable richness and structure. With nearly six decades of bottle ageing, this wine has evolved into a refined and complex expression of mature Vintage Port.

Tasting Notes

The wine now shows a deep garnet colour fading to a tawny rim, reflecting its long maturation in bottle. The bouquet is wonderfully developed, offering aromas of dried figs, raisins and dark cherries intertwined with notes of walnut, cedarwood, leather and sweet spice. Subtle hints of cocoa and orange peel add further depth.

On the palate it is smooth, elegant and harmonious. Layers of mature red fruits, dried plum and roasted nuts unfold gradually, supported by a silky texture and gentle acidity that keeps the wine balanced. The finish is long and mellow, leaving lingering notes of dried fruit, spice and dark chocolate.

Vintage Overview

The 1965 growing season in the Douro produced wines of good ripeness and balance. While the year was not widely declared as a classic Vintage, outstanding fruit from leading estates such as Quinta dos Malvedos was bottled separately. These wines have matured gracefully over time and today provide a fascinating glimpse into the historic vineyards of the Douro.

Serving Suggestions

Serve at 16–18°C and decant carefully to remove the natural sediment that forms during long bottle ageing. It pairs beautifully with blue cheeses such as Stilton, dark chocolate desserts, or can be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative after-dinner wine.

Cellaring

Fully mature and ready to drink now. Once opened, it should ideally be consumed within 1–2 days.
