Description
The 2004 Costa Russi is a high-quality Barbaresco from one of Italy’s most prestigious producers, Angelo Gaja. Its ageing potential, combined with its complex profile, makes it a standout example of Barbaresco.
Tasting Notes:
On the nose, the 2004 Costa Russi offers a complex and inviting bouquet, featuring concentrated blackberry, floral notes, grilled meat, and hints of dark chocolate. The palate is full-bodied and luxurious, with supple, caressing tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the wine’s refined character. Layers of dark fruit, licorice, and spice unfold gradually, leading to a long, persistent finish. The 2004 vintage is drinking beautifully now but can still age well for another 5 to 10 years.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant for 2 hours and serve at 16–18°C. Pair it with rich dishes like braised beef, truffle risotto, or aged cheeses such as Parmigiano-Reggiano. It also complements grilled lamb or wild game.
Costa Russi is a single-vineyard site located in the Barbaresco wine region of Piedmont, Italy. It is one of the most prestigious vineyards owned by the Gaja winery. The name "Costa Russi" refers to the steep, sun-drenched slope of the vineyard, which produces high-quality Nebbiolo grapes used to create the renowned Gaja Barbaresco Costa Russi wine. The vineyard's unique terroir, with its mix of soils and exposure to sunlight, contributes to the wine's complexity and aging potential.
