Tasting Notes
The 1958 Boal is medium sweet as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Flavours of caramel, cacao, toffee, dates, roasted coffee, smoke, and raisin. While the texture of Bual Madeira is rich, it is high in acidity, making the wine less sticky than Port. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing with an extraordinarily long finish.
Serving and food Pairing
Serve your Madeira at room temperature and pair with rich meat dishes such as duck or lamb in fruit sauce or game meats. It is excellent with blue cheeses like stilton as well as nutty hard cheeses like parmesan. Due to its balanced sweet/acidity profile bual is perfect companion to chocolate and fruit based desserts.
How to store your Madeira Wine
Unlike some other wines, Madeira should be stored upright to minimize the wine's contact with the cork. Madeira can last for months, even years, after opening due to its fortified nature. Store the bottle with the cork tightly in place in a cool, dark place.
