Description
Maynard’s 2016 Vintage Port, crafted by Barão de Vilar under the Van Zeller family, is a striking example of the exceptional 2016 vintage in the Douro Valley. Using traditional grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão, the wine was aged for two years in oak before being bottled unfiltered. It presents as a richly structured port with a dense, firm texture and an abundance of ripe blackberry and plum fruit, underpinned by elegant tannins and excellent ageing potential.
On both the nose and palate, it delivers deep, dark fruit flavours—blackberry, cherry, and damson—complemented by notes of cocoa, vanilla, and a gentle spice. The wine is full-bodied yet balanced, with freshness and acidity lifting the richness of the fruit. The tannic structure provides a robust backbone, giving it great capacity for long-term cellaring while still offering immediate appeal for those who enjoy bold and expressive vintage ports.
This 2016 Vintage Port is best served between 15–18°C and should be decanted to allow the wine to breathe and to remove any natural sediment. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate desserts, rich fruit puddings, or mature cheeses such as Stilton or aged Gouda. A superb choice for collectors, special occasions, or anyone looking to experience a classically styled vintage port with both power and finesse.

Reviews
A beautifully balanced, rich wine, this has great tannins, a dense, firm texture and luscious blackberry fruits. It shows the structure of the vintage while also bringing a fresher element. Jammy but never cloying, this is an impressive wine for the long term. Drink from 2029. Roger Voss
The 2016 Vintage Port Maynard's Organic is a blend of 45% Tinta Roriz, 40% Touriga Franca and 15% of Touriga Nacional aged in old wooden vats for two years. It comes in with 133 grams of residual sugar. Nicely balanced, this has elegance, focus, moderate concentration and a fair bit of power on the back end. The firm and fresh finish is laced with some plums and herbs. This is very nicely done. Its structure could give it the chance to age very well too. Although nowhere near ready today, it is not too hard to drink even now, though. 93 Points(Mark Squires) Wine Advocate
