Description
Vintage & Background
The 2006 vintage in the Douro delivered grapes with concentrated flavour and balanced structure, ideal for fortified wines destined for long oxidative ageing. Offley’s Colheita is a single-vintage tawny Port, matured in seasoned oak barrels in Vila Nova de Gaia for many years before bottling. This extended wood ageing allows both complexity and finesse to develop, making the 2006 a compelling example of modern traditional Port from a historic house.
Appearance & Nose
In the glass it shows a brick-red core with orange-tinged tawny hues, characteristic of aged Colheita. The nose is richly layered, with pronounced aromas of dried fig, raisin, and apricot, supported by toasted nut, toffee, and gentle spice notes. Hints of ginger, liquorice, and subtle oak complexity echo the effect of years in barrel, creating an inviting bouquet of sweet and savoury nuance.
Palate & Texture
The palate is elegant and balanced, with rich flavours of dried stone fruits, caramel, roasted nuts and gentle citrus peel. A vibrant acidity keeps the sweetness poised, while smooth, integrated tannins lend structure. Notes of ginger and gentle spice carry through to a long, harmonious finish, where sweetness and freshness find seamless equilibrium.
