Description
The 1971 Palmer Port Colheita is a very rare single-harvest Tawny Port, aged in seasoned oak casks for more than five decades. From an early 1970s vintage, this extraordinary Colheita shows remarkable maturity, elegance and complexity, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy a Port that has been patiently nurtured across generations. A true collector’s treasure. Drink now or enjoy over the next decade.
Tasting Notes:
Deep mahogany-tawny with golden edges. The nose is intensely complex, revealing aromas of dried figs, dates, roasted walnuts, caramelised orange peel, coffee and sweet spice. On the palate, flavours of toffee, raisin, hazelnut and molasses unfold in silky layers, balanced by vibrant acidity that keeps the wine fresh despite its age. The finish is exceptionally long, smooth and nutty, with lingering notes of dried fruit, caramel and fine oak.
Serving Tips & Storage
Colheita Ports are bottled ready to drink and do not require decanting. Serve slightly chilled (12–14°C) to highlight the freshness and aromatic complexity. This 1971 Colheita pairs beautifully with roasted nuts, dark chocolate desserts, treacle tart or a selection of mature cheeses. Once opened, the wine will keep well for several weeks if stored upright in a cool place. Store unopened bottles on their side, in a cool, dark space away from heat and light.
