Description
1982 Penfolds Grange
A classic from Australia's most iconic wine label, the 1982 Penfolds Grange is a vintage that has matured into graceful complexity, reflecting the hallmark power, structure, and longevity of Grange. Made predominantly from Shiraz with a small component of Cabernet Sauvignon, it was aged in American oak hogsheads, as per tradition.
Tasting Notes:
Now over 40 years old, this vintage displays a deep garnet core with a fading rim. The bouquet is savoury and evolved, offering layers of dried blackberry, leather, roasted meats, espresso, and earthy spice. On the palate, it is mellow and textured, with softened tannins and aged fruit giving way to notes of dark chocolate, tobacco, and oak resin. The finish is long and savoury, carried by excellent structure and acidity that remains remarkably intact.
Drinkability:
Fully mature and drinking at its peak, this wine should be enjoyed soon. Decant gently to allow any sediment to settle and aromas to open fully.
Provenance:
As one of the earlier Grange vintages following the legendary 1976–1981 run, the 1982 is often overlooked — yet in magnum or well-cellared bottles, it remains a powerful and expressive example of Penfolds’ legacy.
