Description
This outstanding 30 Year Old white port from Quevedo embodies a blend of some of the finest whites from Oscar and Claudia's cellars. Aged for an average of thirty years in cask, this elegant white port shows an intense aromatic profile of orange citrus notes, apricots and almonds. Full bodied on the palate with pronounced notes of spices and dried stone fruits, mouthwatering acidity and a long, lingering finish with layers of marmalade and spice. A very complex blend, which represents the traditional Quevedo family style exceptionally well.
Serving & Food Pairing:
White Ports are ready to drink and do not require decanting. Best enjoyed chilled at 12-13ºC on its own as an aperitif, or paired with rich starters such as mushroom risotto. With a freshness beyond age, White Port is also ideal with crème brulee or a spicy apple crumble.
Quevedo is an incredible, innovative producer that is very highly regarded amongst port aficionados. The family have been making port wine for generations however their produce was for merchants based in Vila Nova de Gaia. Family-owned for over 100 years, the estate is now in the capable hands of Oscar and Claudia, the new generation of winemakers. Together, they have developed and innovated to produce an outstanding portfolio of ports and still wines. The Quevedo estate and winery is in S. João da Pesqueira, a small town in the heart of Douro Valley. With 112 hectares of vineyards in prime locations, a modern winery, and generations of knowledge it is easy to see why their ports and still wines are consistently rated as outstanding.

The NV 30 Year Old White Port was bottled in 2015 with 107 grams per liter of residual sugar. The winery doesn't have much actual information on this white Port because their "grandparents were aging some...without any economic reason, just because they didn't know what to do with them." Sometimes white Ports were hard to sell. The winery is now bottling them, producing just 1,260 bottles in 500-milliliter sizes with a bar top cork. It's terrific. Tasted with some others in the category, this wasn't the most complex, but it was tightly wound, fresh and nicely concentrated. Surprisingly light in color for a 30, it is lingering on the beautiful finish with lifted and flavorful fruit. It just doesn't seem to want to let go on the finish. You have to beg, plead and wheedle. Then, what the heck, have another sip. It's a beauty. If I had a quibble, small one though it might be, it didn't seem to hold its focus as well as it aired and warmed. Note that typical for the category, these can age very well if there are no problems with the cork, but they are not expected to be aged. They are completely ready to drink. Don't hesitate to dive in.
