Quevedo, 2002 Colheita Port
Colheita Port, Douro
***90 Points- Wine Advocate***
Bottle size: 75cl
ABV: 20%
Price:
$51.71 USD
Description
2002 was a difficult year. Definitively the biggest challenge of the decade - even for Quevedo. Since no grapes were used to produce Vintage Port, their best selection was used to make this Colheita. With 20 years of ageing in their cellar, this is probably the most elegant and complex Colheita produced so far.
Winemakers Notes
COLOUR: Light brick
AROMA: Very complex and intense notes of spices, caramel, dried fruits.
PALATE: Powerful entry with a rich profusion of dried fruits, mid palate filled with candied fruits. Spices on the lingering finish put together this layered, complex and elegant Port.
Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. If stored correctly, Colheita Ports will keep for decades in the bottle. Over time, it is natural that a little sediment will form at the bottom of a bottle of colheita Port wine. Once opened colheita Port should be stored in a fridge and should be consumed within 3 months. Best served at a temperature between 14 and 16°C.

The 2002 Colheita Port is a blend of Touriga Franca (40%), Tinta Barroca (32%), Tinta Roriz (16%), Touriga Nacional (10%) and Tinto Cão (2%) bottled in 2022 with 110 grams per liter of residual sugar and a long cork. The winery called 2002 the "biggest challenge of the decade." They made no Vintage Port, so all those grapes went here. The winery concedes that there is less concentration but points to the wine's purity and complexity. It has both of those, but the best feature here is the freshness. It's bright, lively and elegant, completely irresistible if completely understated. This is not a monumental Colheita, and it does need more concentration for a Tawny that is basically a 20 Year Port. Viewed in a certain way, it is simply lacking, as the winery's comments might suggest. Viewed as a graceful 10 Year Tawny, it's lovely. It is easy to drink, perfectly balanced and pretty delicious. It is, of course, a bit on the pricey side for what it is. As always, these can age well if you must age them (the end-date drinking window is just a vague guideline), but they don't need aging.
