Description
The Quinta da Devesa 30-Year-Old White Port is a remarkable expression of aged white port from the Douro Valley, crafted by one of the region’s most innovative and quality-focused producers. Made from traditional white grape varieties such as Côdega de Larinho, Rabigato, Malvasia Fina, and Gouveio, the wine is aged for an average of three decades in seasoned oak casks. This long maturation allows it to develop extraordinary complexity while retaining the freshness that defines the house style.
Visually, the port shows a radiant golden amber hue with glints of olive and green around the rim, a hallmark of advanced oxidative aging. On the nose, it is rich and layered, exuding aromas of dried apricot, candied orange peel, roasted nuts, old honey, balsamic herbs, and exotic spices. Subtle floral and herbal undertones add an extra dimension of elegance. The palate is equally impressive—silky, weighty, and beautifully balanced, with flavours of marmalade, toasted almonds, citrus zest, vanilla bean, and fig paste. There is a delightful interplay between sweetness and acidity, and the finish is long, nutty, and satisfyingly dry.
This wine has earned high critical acclaim, including 94 points from Robert Parker and 92 points from Wine Enthusiast, confirming its place among the finest aged white ports available. It is a stellar example of how aged white port can rival aged tawny in depth and character, yet with a more lifted and aromatic profile that’s unique to white varieties.
Best enjoyed chilled (10–12°C), the Devesa 30-Year White Port pairs beautifully with soft cheeses, foie gras, salted nuts, and desserts like crème brûlée or almond tart. It also makes a refined aperitif or a luxurious finale to a fine meal. Once opened, it keeps well for several months thanks to its oxidative aging style, making it both indulgent and practical for slow enjoyment. This is a wine of grace and longevity—an essential bottle for any serious port collector or enthusiast.
A historic vineyard, Quinta da Devesa was already included as a quality grape growing plot in the first map of the Douro Demarcated Region. The most important history of the property began in 1941 when Jose Fortunato Junior and his wife, Antonia Soares Fortunato acquired Quinta da Devesa and decided to pour their lifetime passion for port wine into the property through great investment in port and, later, dry wine production.
Over seventy years later, harvests of superior quality have been kept and stored in wooden casks in the winery cellars. These are used today to produce the famed tawny and aged white port blends alongside some exceptional colheita ports dating back to 1944.

The 30 Years White Port is a field blend from old vines (50 plus years). It was bottled in July 2015 with 104 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is not necessarily head and shoulders over the 20 Year tasted this issue, but it is very different. Much darker in color, its main flavor difference comes from its far superior complexity. If it lacks the fresh vibrancy of the 20, it is hardly old, dying or decayed. It is a prime time white Port. Moreover, it finishes with a fascinating array of old Tawny-like flavors, including just a whiff here and there of brandy as it airs and warms. Simply beautiful, this seals the deal with its seemingly endless finish. It's gorgeous. You'll love tasting it because it is delicious. It's also a wine to contemplate, probably my favorite white Port of this report. Note that this was tasted from a 500-milliliter bottle. mark Squires Dec 2015 eRobertParker

At 30-years-old, white Port and its more familiar cousin tawny Port are almost alike in their spice, wood and intense character. The differences with white Ports, as here, are their greater fruitiness, spice and of course their beautiful gold color. They offer a fine, concentrated wine that should be drunk now.
