Perfect for gifting, collecting, or enjoying now, the 1995 Quinta do Vesúvio Library Release is a must-have for serious Port lovers and wine collectors seeking aged, ready-to-drink Vintage Ports with guaranteed provenance.

Traditionally, after each en primeur release, the Symington family has carefully set aside a limited quantity of Vintage Port to mature in ideal conditions within their own cellars. With the Library Release series, they now proudly distinguish these exceptional bottles from the initial launch, highlighting the unique provenance and quality that comes from decades of ageing under expert care.

Tasting Notes by our Wine Expert:
In the glass, it reveals a deep garnet core with a soft amber rim, hinting at its time-earned refinement. The nose is utterly captivating – layers of dark cherry compote, blackberry jam, dried fig and menthol are interwoven with whispers of cedar, cocoa, and spiced orange peel. Subtle notes of fine tobacco and exotic incense rise with time in the glass, adding beguiling depth. On the palate, it is both powerful and poised, with silky tannins framing deep notes of black plum, cassis, and liquorice, lifted by wild herbs and Vesúvio’s signature minerality. Its perfectly judged sweetness gives way to savoury, umami layers, culminating in a hauntingly long finish of dark chocolate, espresso, and aged balsamic. More than a Port, this is a time capsule – a rare, mature expression of Vesúvio’s grandeur, released in its full, mesmeric glory. While perfect to enjoy now, it retains the structure and vitality to evolve beautifully for another 15 years or more in bottle. 94/100 Points -DG 13/05/2025.

    Serving and Food pairing:
Serve slightly chilled at 16–18°C to highlight its depth and aromatic complexity. Decant gently to remove any sediment and allow the wine to breathe. Pair with blue cheeses, dark chocolate desserts, or roasted nuts to complement its rich, savoury-sweet character.

    Interesting Facts:
The label of this inaugural Quinta do Vesúvio Library Release has been redesigned to distinguish it from the initial en primeur release. For the very first time, the label states the number of years that the wine has spent ageing in bottle, shown together with the bottling and release dates. There is also an indication that this is the second time the Vintage Port is being formally released, following the initial launch 2-3 decades ago. As part of the family’s meticulous approach to ageing Vintage Port, this Library Release has been carefully recorked to guarantee quality, and the label displays the year in which the process was completed.
This Library Release of Quinta do Vesúvio 1995 Vintage Port was only the seventh harvest for the family since their acquisition of the magnificent Douro estate in 1989. Peter Symington, Head Winemaker at the time, is particularly proud of this wine and believes it is one of the finest he made in the early years of the family’s ownership. 1995 also marks the year his son, Charles (now Head Winemaker) joined the family company.

How to store your Vintage Port
Vintage Port, like all fine wines, prefers to remain undisturbed, lying on its side in a dark and at least slightly humid place at a stable temperature of between 10°C and 14°C to mature properly.
