Description
The 20-year-old São Leonardo Tawny Port by Mourão is a superb example of a finely aged tawny port, offering a rich and nuanced drinking experience that is perfect for special occasions or as a luxurious treat.
Tasting Notes
Typical of aged tawny ports, it exhibits a beautiful amber or tawny hue. On the nose, intense and complex aromas of dried fruits, vanilla, honey, and toasted wood, with hints of oxidation that add to its depth. Rich on the palate, with flavours of dried fruits like figs, apricots, and raisins, alongside notes of nuts, caramel, toffee, and subtle spices. The long, elegant finish showcases its complexity.
Serving & Food Pairing
Tawny Ports are ready-to drink and do not require decanting. Best enjoyed slightly chilled at 12-13ºC they will work wonders if pairing with desserts such as pecan pie, crème brûlée, or aged cheeses like blue cheese. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a digestif.

The NV Tawny Porto 20 Years S. Leonardo is a field blend coming in with 126 grams per liter of residual sugar. It was bottled in 2017 with a bar-top cork. This has a lot of the liveliness that I look for in a 20—it seems full of life compared to the producer's 10, which is very big but a little stolid. Of course, with a 20 you want to see more concentration and complexity. That's a done deal. The mid-palate is elegant, but you can taste the difference in the intensity of fruit. Plus, this has more character and more power than the 10. It takes the spice and sugar of the 10, then adds some caramel and a touch of brandy. Overall, this is more complex than most 20s as well, seeming more mature and more serious. It is pretty delicious and long on the finish. This is the sweet spot in the lineup—the right intersection of quality and price.
