Description
Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape.
The 1976 Barolo Troglia from Dott. G. Cappellano displays a deep brick garnet hue with pronounced tawny highlights, indicative of advanced maturity and long bottle aging. The wine appears clear but delicate, reflecting its age and careful evolution.
The nose is highly expressive and layered, opening with dried rose petals, tar, and old leather, followed by notes of sour cherry, dried plum, and orange peel. Secondary and tertiary aromas of forest floor, dried herbs, tobacco leaf, truffle, and balsamic tones emerge gradually with aeration.
On the palate, the wine is fully mature and graceful, with resolved tannins and still-present acidity providing balance. Flavors of dried red fruits, tea leaf, anise, and earthy spice unfold gently, supported by savory nuances and a refined, traditional Barolo structure.
The finish is medium to long, savory and persistent, leaving impressions of leather, dried herbs, and woodland earth. Overall, this is a classic, traditionally styled Barolo that rewards slow contemplation, best enjoyed without extended decanting and served slightly cool to preserve its subtle complexity.
