  • Description

The perfect Barolo for long ageing. This wine perfectly embodies the spirit and terroir of Serralunga. Its grapes come from Parafada, the oldest Massolino vineyard, planted with vines that are about sixty years old. The site is renowned for its calcareous marl soils and optimal south-facing exposure, which contribute to the wine's depth and complexity.

    Tasting Notes:
Deep garnet red with bright hues. Intense and complex aromas, featuring red fruit notes intertwined with floral and spicy nuances. Robust and rich mouthfeel, reflecting the intricate terroir of Serralunga d'Alba. The wine is structured with well-integrated tannins and a harmonious balance between fruit, herbs, and earthy elements.

    Serving & Food Pairing:
It is best to decant and serve it at temperatures between 18-20°C. The elegant companion for as risotto cooked in Barolo, and rich main courses, such as roast meats. After a few years of ageing, this Barolo expresses its considerable potential just as well when sipped as a wine for thought and served with hard and medium-hard cheeses.

    Vinification and Aging:
The wine undergoes traditional fermentation and maceration in oak fermenters at temperatures around 30°C for 15-20 days. It is then aged in large Slavonian oak casks for approximately 30 months, followed by a minimum of one year in bottle in dark, cool cellars.

Massolino is a historic family-run winery in Barolo, Piedmont, founded in 1896. Known for producing high-quality Barolo wines, it focuses on traditional winemaking methods and vineyards in prestigious Barolo crus like Margheria and Serralunga d'Alba. The winery is renowned for its elegance, structure, and long aging potential of its Nebbiolo-based wines.

    Reviews

James Suckling: 96 points – "Notes of dried raspberries, cherries, dried orange peel and ground spices. Medium-bodied, structured and firm, with polished tannins. I like the energy and length here. Round and refined with a bright finish. So well done. Drink after 2027."

Antonio Galloni, Vinous: 93 points – "The 2020 Barolo Parafada is a delicate, focused wine. Bright red fruit, mint, white pepper and crushed herbs are all nicely delineated. This mid-weight, nervy Barolo is all class and very approachable now, but it needs time to be at its finest."

Wine Enthusiast: 94 points – "This Barolo enchants with a captivating blend of herbal notes, featuring dried thyme, rosemary, and a hint of mint. Tart red fruits, such as sour cherry and red currant, intertwine with enticing spices like cinnamon and clove."
