  • Description

In 1999 our family formed a partnership to make top Douro wines with the Prats family of Bordeaux. The first Prats & Symington wine was Chryseia 2000 which received widespread national and international acclaim. Since then Chryseia and its second wine, Post Scriptum, have consistently appeared amongst the most highly rated Douro wines.

Chryseia is our finest expression of the Douro Valley terroir. Made with great care and attention to detail at our winery at Quinta de Roriz. Chryseia represents our two families' commitment to producing the most elegant wine from two hallmark Douro grapes: Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.

    The year
A very wet spring was followed by several dry months and, thankfully, a fairly mild summer. This delayed ripening, but the final result was more than worth the wait.

    The wine
The 2008 is characterised by its fresh aromas, powerful tannins, and great elegance.

    Grape Varieties
    50% Touriga Nacional | 50% Touriga Franca

50% Touriga Nacional, 50% Touriga Franca. Aged for 12 months in 400-litre French oak barrels.
Plums, forest-floor earthiness and mushroom. Then on the palate, there’s a Burgundian note: redcurrant and rhubarb with a spicy, lengthy finish. Effortlessly impressive, and not at all overbearing – especially considering the new oak and intensity. Beautifully accomplished. (RH)
