  • Description

Oscar and Claudia Quevedo have recently declared their 2019 Quevedo Vintage port. This follows their acclaimed 2017 and 2018 Vintage.

2019 was a roller-coaster of a year with an exceptionally wet spring followed by a summer punctuated by heatwaves. Whilst not a general declaration, the ports we have tasted are excellent. Quevedo, who have a several prime vineyards, each with their own micro-climate, were able to select the best grapes to blend into their vintage and the result is a port worthy of its declaration.

    ****93+ Points The Wine Advocate****
The 2019 Vintage Port is a blend of 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Touriga Nacional, 15% Tinta Roriz and dollops of others, unoaked and coming in with just 86 grams of residual sugar. This was sourced from 1983 vines. Graceful, pure and very focused, this is lined with flavor nuanced with blue fruits on opening, but it is also well supported by its tannic backbone. The next day it was far fiercer—a legitimate powerhouse— and hard to approach. The velvety texture made it still sensual, though. Overall, I love the pure flavors that Quevedo delivers in its unadorned and understated style, but it has to come into balance. The power here wasn't completely apparent until the next day, but it sure has plenty, so don't plan on drinking this too young. This should show a lot better around 2030, even if accessible sooner, and it should age very well thereafter. Mark Squires- RobertParker.com
