Description
This Port Wine is the result of a blend of aged wine from Quinta da Devesa, developed with noble grapes used in the Douro region, aged in wooden casks at the Quinta da Devesa cellars.
Tasting Notes:
The Quinta da Devesa Colheita Tawny is orange-brown in colour with a slight verdant edge. Orange peel and smokey caramel notes on the nose. Maple and orange notes, spice on the palate. Full bodied and in perfect balance this is a delightful, yet a powerful and lively wine.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Tawny Ports are ready-to drink and do not require decanting. Best enjoyed slightly chilled at 12-13ºC they will work wonders if pairing with treacle tart, crème brulee or nut based desserts, like hazelnut praline.
A historic vineyard, Quinta da Devesa was already included as a quality grape growing plot in the first map of the Douro Demarcated Region. The most important history of the property began in 1941 when Jose Fortunato Junior and his wife, Antonia Soares Fortunato acquired Quinta da Devesa and decided to pour their lifetime passion for port wine into the property through great investment in port and, later, dry wine production. Over seventy years later, harvests of superior quality have been kept and stored in wooden casks in the winery cellars. These are used today to produce the famed tawny and aged white port blends alongside some exceptional colheita ports dating back to 1944.

The NV 20 Year Old Tawny Porto was bottled in 2017 with a bar-top cork and 117 grams of sugar. Richer than the 10, of course, this is in the same ballpark in style, emphasizing age and complexity, not big fruit. I loved the complex medley of flavors and the power. This eschews fruitiness, mostly, which some will prefer more than others. I thought this was pretty fine—it gives you the old tawny feel without having to trade up to an older tawny.
