Description
The 2019 Quinta da Devesa Vintage Port is a striking expression of both place and vintage, offering depth, power, and elegance in equal measure. In the glass, it reveals a deep, inky purple core with a vibrant magenta rim—youthful and opaque, hinting at its concentration and age-worthiness. The nose is intensely aromatic, bursting with ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries, layered with delicate notes of violets, bergamot, and a grounding minerality. Hints of cacao nibs, licorice, and a whisper of eucalyptus add complexity and lift. On the palate, this port is full-bodied and structured, with bold yet polished tannins supporting a rich core of plum preserves, fig, and blueberry compote. A vibrant acidity threads through the wine, balancing its sweetness and drawing out notes of dark chocolate and exotic spice. The finish is long, persistent, and nuanced, echoing dried fruit, crushed stone, and savory undertones that speak to its potential for long-term aging. While it can be enjoyed now with careful decanting, the 2019 Devesa will continue to evolve beautifully over the next several decades. Ideal as a contemplative sipper, it also pairs exquisitely with blue cheeses or dark chocolate desserts.

The 2019 Vintage Port is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca and 10% Tinta Roriz, with 25% from old vines (80+ years), all aged in old balseiros (large upright barrels) for 18 months. It was bottled in May 2021, with 112 grams of residual sugar. Sexy and sensual thanks to its velvety texture, this has classic Port flavors, but it does lean a little to the soft side. With 75 minutes of decanting into a glass, it drinks decently. The fruit and flavor are gorgeous, but the structure is not quite as impressive. Still, overall, a lot of folks will find this to be a pretty Porto with a lot to offer. You can probably approach this young, but it will hold decently too. There were 3,000 bottles produced..
