Here’s a fully original, website-ready tasting note for the Refosco, 1976 — Casa Vinicola S. Osvaldo, Double Magnum 3.0 L, including contextual information and the refined 2–3 day decanting instructions:

    Refosco, 1976 — Casa Vinicola S. Osvaldo

This rare Refosco comes from Casa Vinicola S. Osvaldo, a historic Friulian producer known for crafting full-bodied, age-worthy reds from the indigenous Refosco grape. This extraordinary double magnum (3.0 L) of the 1976 vintage displays a deep garnet-red colour with brick highlights, reflecting over four decades of careful maturation.

On the nose, it reveals complex aromas of dried black cherries, plum, cocoa, and gentle spice, intertwined with notes of leather, tobacco, and earthy forest floor nuances. The palate is rich and velvety, with softened yet structured tannins supporting flavours of stewed dark fruits, hints of mocha, and subtle Mediterranean herbs. The finish is long, elegant, and harmonious, showcasing the depth, finesse, and distinctive Friulian character of mature Refosco.

Decanting: Stand the bottle upright for 2–3 days prior to opening to allow any sediment to settle. Decant slowly and carefully through a fine strainer, allowing 2–3 hours of gentle aeration due to the bottle’s large volume, before serving at 16–18°C. A fragile cork is very common with older bottles, where the wine has been in prolonged contact with the cork over many decades. We therefore recommend straining any cork fragments during the decanting process.
