Warre’s Vintage Port 1947 is a true rarity and a fascinating piece of post-war winemaking history. Coming just two years after World War II, the 1947 vintage was declared by only a few Port houses, making it quite uncommon. An extremely rare 1927 wine made by Warre's. You should expect a pale garnet colour with aromas of red cherry jam and dried figs alongside cinnamon spice and peppery notes. Sweet on the palate it should offer great balance between its sweetness and acidity, the tannins should be smooth and silky finish off long with liquorice notes, milk chocolate and clove and nutmeg spice.

Exceptional Provenance

These bottles of Warre 1922 Vintage Port was taken from a house in Halifax associated with the Holdsworth family who were big in textiles at the turn of the 20th Century. The cellar has remained closed for 60 years until the new owners opened it to discover a treasure trove of wines and Ports including many bottles from 1922 and 1947. All of the Port has been undisturbed and stored in cool conditions. The colour is exceptional for wines of this era.

The 1978 Warre Cavadinha is the first release from this estate after it was purchased by the Symington family in 1978. The late ripening cycle of this estate dictates the style of Cavadinha Ports; they are fresh, elegant and have very fine aromas and now form the backbone of Warre’s Vintage Port.

Old vines make up a very high proportion of the vineyard, consequently these wines are dark and concentrated, but the south easterly aspect and higher altitude results in a very elegant style.
