Description
Barolo is known as the 'King of Wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. The 1976 Barolo from Bel Colle displays a brick garnet color with amber and tawny highlights at the rim, clearly indicating full maturity. The wine appears delicate and translucent, consistent with long-aged Nebbiolo from a traditional vintage.
The nose is fully evolved and expressive, offering aromas of dried rose petals, tar, and red tea, followed by dried cherry, cranberry, and hints of orange peel. With aeration, tertiary notes of leather, forest floor, tobacco, dried herbs, mushroom, and subtle balsamic nuances emerge.
On the palate, the wine is gentle and resolved, with softened tannins and moderate acidity providing structure and balance. Flavors of dried red fruits, tea leaf, earthy spice, and a touch of anise unfold gracefully, emphasizing savory complexity and elegance over power.
The finish is medium in length, earthy and refined, with lingering impressions of dried herbs, leather, and woodland notes. Overall, this is a classic, fully mature Barolo best enjoyed for its tertiary character and historical charm, served slightly cool and handled carefully due to its age
