  • Description

This 1976 Barolo shows a brick-garnet core with a wide tawny rim, along with fine sediment typical of a wine at full maturity. The colour signals advanced tertiary development, with primary fruit largely receded and the wine now displaying the delicate nuance and finesse characteristic of aged Nebbiolo.

The nose is refined and complex, dominated by dried roses, pot-pourri, tar, and leather. Secondary and tertiary notes of cigar box, truffle, forest floor, and gentle spice add depth, while hints of dried cherry, orange peel, and balsamic lift provide elegance. The aromatic profile is subtle but layered, rewarding careful and patient observation.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and graceful, with dried red fruit flavours — cherry, cranberry, and a touch of plum — complemented by savoury notes of cedar, leather, tobacco, and earthy mushroom. Tannins have softened into a fine, chalky texture, while the bright, linear acidity maintains structure and lift, giving the wine a poised, harmonious character.

The finish is long and delicate, lingering on dried roses, tar, spice, and earthy undertones. Fully mature and fragile, this Barolo benefits from careful handling: stand the bottle upright before opening, decant lightly to remove sediment, and serve slightly below room temperature to best appreciate its aromatic depth, elegance, and refined, aged complexity.
