Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. The 1976 Barolo from Ceste displays a brick garnet color with amber and tawny reflections at the rim, clearly indicating full maturity. The wine is translucent and delicate in appearance, consistent with long-aged, traditionally made Nebbiolo.
The nose is evolved and expressive, offering aromas of dried rose petals, tar, and red tea, followed by dried cherry, cranberry, and hints of orange peel. Tertiary notes of leather, forest floor, tobacco, mushroom, dried herbs, and subtle balsamic nuances develop with time in the glass.
On the palate, the wine is fully resolved and graceful, with softened tannins and moderate acidity providing structure and balance. Flavors of dried red fruits, tea leaf, earthy spice, and a touch of anise unfold gently, emphasizing savory complexity and elegance over power.
The finish is medium in length, earthy and refined, with lingering impressions of dried herbs, leather, and woodland character. Overall, this is a classic, mature Barolo best enjoyed for its tertiary character and historical charm, served slightly cool and handled carefully due to its age.
