Elio Grasso, 2020 Barolo “Ginestra Casa Maté”

One of Barolo’s truly iconic single-vineyard wines, Ginestra Casa Maté is the flagship expression of Elio Grasso and a benchmark for the Monforte d’Alba commune.

The 2020 vintage opens with an intense yet refined bouquet of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry and blackcurrant, interwoven with classic Nebbiolo notes of rose petal, liquorice, tar and sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is powerful and layered, showing impressive concentration of crimson fruit, dried herbs and earthy minerality, supported by vibrant acidity. Firm, finely etched tannins provide structure and grip, driving through to a long, savoury and complex finish with remarkable persistence.

This is a Barolo of authority, depth and longevity, combining richness with precision in unmistakable Elio Grasso style.

    Food Pairing
Exceptional with slow-braised beef, venison, game dishes, truffle-rich recipes, and aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno.

    Serving & Cellaring
Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for 2–3 hours before drinking. Built for the long term, this wine will cellar confidently for 20–25+ years.

    Why We Love It
Ginestra Casa Maté represents Barolo at its most serious and age-worthy — powerful yet precise, with remarkable depth and elegance. A must-have for collectors and Nebbiolo lovers alike.

    Reviews

Notes of ripe cherries and red plums with hints of sandalwood and liquorice. Medium-bodied with firm tannins. It’s structured and focused with complexity and depth. Ripe and vivid fruit in the middle with a dry, polished finish. Try after 2028.
