Description
Exclusive to Vintage Wine & Port
The 1951 Palmer Port Colheita (50cl) is an exceptionally rare single-harvest Tawny Port, aged in seasoned oak casks for more than seventy years. From the early post-war era, this remarkable wine offers a unique glimpse into history, displaying extraordinary maturity, depth and finesse. Presented in a 50cl bottle, it is perfect for gifting or sharing a piece of Port heritage on the most special of occasions. Drink now or enjoy over the coming years.
Tasting Notes:
Deep mahogany-brown with golden-amber edges. The bouquet is intensely evolved, with aromas of dried figs, dates, chestnut, caramelised orange peel, old polished wood, coffee and exotic spice. On the palate, flavours of raisin, toffee, roasted almond, molasses and hints of treacle unfold in silky layers, lifted by surprising freshness from well-preserved acidity. The finish is immensely long, nutty and elegant, leaving lingering notes of dried fruits, spice and fine oak.
Serving Tips & Storage
Colheita Ports are bottled ready to drink and do not require decanting. Best served slightly chilled (12–14°C) to enhance aromatic complexity and freshness. This 50cl format is ideal for gifting or for enjoying across several occasions. Pair with roasted nuts, Christmas pudding, treacle tart, dark chocolate desserts or mature cheeses. Once opened, the Port will remain in excellent condition for several weeks if stored upright in a cool place. Store unopened bottles on their side, in a cool, dark environment away from heat and light.
Palmer is an independent Port house with a reputation for producing traditional styles at outstanding value. Samuel Palmer, a late ancestor of the Van Zeller family – once owner of Casa de Malladas – was a maverick and a remarkable icon in the trade of high-quality Port shipped to England. Paying attention to every single detail, the Van Zeller family have carefully aged their wines in the highest quality oak casks to ensure that they mature these rare elixirs as Samuel Palmer once wanted them to be. Specialising in Colheitas, Tawnies and Aged Ports, Palmer sources its grapes from the Douro Valley’s schistous vineyards, crafting expressive, authentic wines that combine heritage with elegance.
