Burmester, 2002

Vintage Port
In Wooden Gift Box

This 2002 Burmester Vintage Port has outstanding provenance! This bottle has been stored at the Burmester cellars on Porto since bottling until it was acquired by us earlier this year.

from the very good 2002 Port Vintage the Burmester has a beautiful mature tawny colour. On the nose it has cocoa, chocolate together with a hint of mint. On the palate this is quite complex - medium bodied with a perfect balance between the acidity, tannins and flavours, there is a little spiciness in the mouth that adds to the experience. Long, long finish. This is in a good place and should hold well for a couple of decades.

Chateau Batailley, 2002

Pauillac, 5th Growth Classification

Batailley is a favourite chateau of ours, producing classic claret that almost always rewards patience. Stern and unloveable in their youth, with age these wines eventually blossom into a mellow aromatically complex maturity. Just don't drink them too early!

"The ’02 Batailley has a surprisingly deep colour. The nose displays good intensity and lift with blackberry, briary, sous-bois and a touch of bay leaf, all with fine delineation if lacking some vigour. With time in the glass, there are more tar and cedar-wood aromas emerging. The palate is medium-bodied but with a sinewy entry, rounded tannins, with notes of blackberry, cedar, pencil shavings and a touch of plum.

Chateau Brane Cantenac, 2002

Margaux 2me cru Classe

The 2002 Château Brane-Cantenac from Margaux is a solid example of the elegance and finesse that characterizes wines from this Left Bank estate, even in a challenging vintage. The 2002 vintage in Bordeaux was marked by unpredictable weather, with a rainy summer and a warm, dry September that allowed grapes to ripen adequately, though it was a year requiring skillful winemaking to produce wines of quality.

In the glass, this Brane-Cantenac reveals a medium ruby color with slight garnet edges, indicative of its age. The nose opens with aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and cherry, followed by subtle hints of cedar, tobacco, and earthy undertones that add complexity.

Chateau d'Yquem, 2002

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe - Half Bottle

Chateau d`Yquem is often described as the greatest sweet wine in the world. After centuries of family ownership, Yquem was finally sold in acrimonious circumstances to Louis Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy in 1999. However, its former owner and director Alexandre de Lur-Saluce remains in charge. Yquem is located on the highest hill in Sauternes and enjoys the best growing conditions in the whole appellation. The 110-hectare vineyard is planted with 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. Only fully botrytized fruit is picked by the 150 highly skilled pickers and yields are so low that each vine produces only one glass of wine.

Chateau Latour, 2002

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
*** 96 Points - Robert Parker *** Special Offer | Was £545 | Now £465

The wine of the vintage? There are only 10,000 cases of this extraordinarily rich, dense 2002 that is as powerful as the 2003 (even the alcohol levels are nearly the same, 12.85%) . It is dark ruby/purple to the rim, with notes of English walnuts, crushed rocks, black currants, and forest floor, dense, full-bodied, and opulent, yet classic with spectacular aromatics, marvelous purity, and a full-bodied finish that lasts just over 50+ seconds. Huge richness and the sweetness of the tannin are somewhat deceptive as this wine seems set for a long life. Administrator Frederic Engerer seems to be more pleased with what Latour achieved in 2002 than in any other recent vintage.

Bolgheri, 2001

Superiore, Tenuta Guado al Tasso Antinori
** 96 Points -Parker's Wine Advocate **

Tenuta Belvedere is the Antinori property in Bolgheri, once part of an enormous estate from which the vineyards of both Ornellaia and Sassicaia were carved out. After an excellent 1998, the wines of both 1999 and, particularly, 2000 were significantly less successful, but the 2001 Guado al Tasso should help forget this temporary unevenness. A dense ruby with purple highlights, the wine is loaded with aromas and flavors of perfectly ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, minerals, sage, and thyme. The wine is more fragrant and more finely-spun than Antinori’s other Bordeaux wine, Solaia, but there is no lack of concentration and density here, though both are tempered by a satiny texture and polished tannins which are all elegance and breed.
